Joseph Stagno describes his childhood recollections of living in Gibraltar, connections between Gibraltar and UK, and the effects of the Spanish Civil War. At the outbreak of WW2, he recalls being evacuated to Morocco, along with his first impressions of arriving in Marrakesh. He describes his return to Gibraltar, then voyage to UK and subsequent time in London, staying at the Royal Palace Hotel and attending school in the National History Museum. He talks about problems with some older Gibraltarians adjusting to life in UK. He goes on to describe his enlistment in the Royal Navy.
