Patrick Keightley’s father Sir Charles Keightley was Governor of Gibraltar from 1958-1962. Patrick recalls visiting Gibraltar in 1959 and 1961 when he stayed for several months to recuperate after being wounded whilst on service in The Persian Gulf. He describes social life in Gibraltar in the 1960s, swimming and sailing, visiting Spain. He has a wonderful recollection of Government House at this time and the friends, politicians and influential people who visited, including Princess Mary, Field Marshall Montgomery, Sir Winston Churchill, and Aristotle Onassis.

Patrick Keightley speaks about his father’s work and affection for Gibraltar; particularly his desire to develop The Rock for tourism; the building of the Keightley Way linking the Europa Point Road.
