Leslie Harling provides an interesting account of service life in Gibraltar during the early 1950s. As a member of REME, he describes the vehicle electricians’ workshops and his own duties. During his time on The Rock, he was subsequently posted as quartermaster sergeant to 54 AA Regt RA. He describes life in the Sergeants’ Mess, visits to Spain and Tangiers and the visit of Queen Elizabeth to Gibraltar and the reaction of the Spanish.
