Margaret Bootland was the wife of an infantry soldier with the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Regiment. They were stationed in Gibraltar before being posted to Burma in 1938. She expresses her love for Gibraltar, despite the problems with infestations of cockroaches. She describes the social life, provides an account of survivors from a bombed German battleship, and the visit of a German Admiral during the Spanish Civil War. She also talks about the border controls with Spain and the hostility of some Spaniards to Gibraltar.
