Mr. Carn tells of his time as a junior NCO in the Artillery defence of Gibraltar in 1940/41 and the nature of the defences, plus attacks by the Italians and French.

Subsequently, he records his time as a commissioned officer in the RASC Training School for all ranks at Hassanable and elsewhere, India from 1941 to 1946. He comments on numerous places and refers to a Boer cemetery there from the time of the Boer War.
